A betrothal ceremony had rituals to follow. He wasn't supposed to see her until all was official.
He didn't care. Lucius hid behind the stairs and waited.
Finally, she glided down the steps, an angel in white and silver, leaving him frozen by her glory. All his plans - an embrace, a kiss - faded. All he could do was stare after her.
She paused at the door to the next room, looked over her shoulder, and winked at him. She held out her hand and smiled. "Together," she said.
Lucius took her hand and walked beside her. Always together.
